#1 NCAA Baseball Ranking

LSU last year saw a down year most other schools can only hope for, finishing with only their second sub .500 winning percentage in conference play and not being able to reach the College World Series after having won it all in 2023. However, the talent is present for a more successful run for the 2025 season. With key additions in both the recruitment pool and transfer portal, LSU sets itself up for an exciting season.

Thankfully for the Tigers, LSU retains most of their starting lineup from last season. Although they took a big hit losing their best guy in Tommy White to the Athletics in the MLB draft, they were able to keep other top performers from their lineup including Steven Milam, Michael Braswell, and Jared Jones. In addition to these key three, LSU added more hitting talent in top ten prep bat, Derek Curiel, the top high school catcher, Cade Arrambide, and great transfer recruits in Chris Stanfield (Auburn), Luke Hernandez (Indiana St.), and Daniel Dickinson (Utah Valley).

Admittedly, LSU did lose a lot of key pieces in the pitching department. They saw the departure of Luke Holman, Gage Jump, Thatcher Hurd, Griffin Herring, Nate Ackenhausen, and Christian Little to the MLB draft. On the flip side, LSU will see their pitching depth grow potentially even stronger. First round talent, Chase Shores, will see his return after missing the entire 2024 season due to injury. The top prep arm in this past draft class, William Schmidt, chose to forgo the draft and honor his commitment to LSU. Anthony Eyanson (UCSD), among one of the top arms entering the transfer portal, made the switch to join Jay Johnson at LSU. This sets up an elite weekend rotation and doesn’t even include returners Kade Anderson and Gavin Guidry or other transfer portal additions such as Zac Cowan (Wofford) and Luke Hayden (Indiana St.).

There is an abundance of young talent added to the roster for the upcoming season that looks promising for even the 2026 season. Jay Johnson and his coaching staff have also proven to be successful with the use of his given talent and developing players so there are high hopes for the Tigers for the 2025 season.
