Adrian Lopez - INF
USC
Like Patton, Lopez is another player formerly with Long Beach State who also had just transferred, moving not too far away to the Trojans. Lopez has a huge frame, standing at 6’3 205 lbs playing as a true freshman in 2024. His slashline didn’t stand out too much coming in with a .225/.300/.407 line. However, Lopez was the everyday shortstop as a freshman for a D1 program and on top of his age, showed potential for his pop with 19 XBHs in 54 games with 8 of the 19 being home runs. Lopez has a quick swing and rotation that helps to generate power but his hands do have a lot of extra movement upon the load up as well as at times, becoming off balance during his swing. These mechanical issues do lead to a strikeout issue with Lopez striking out in 28% of his plate appearances as opposed to walking to a clip of just 8.6%. Although the plate discipline might not be all there, adjustments to his swing can help recognize his power potential as an infield bat that can still provide great value to a team. His defense does leave a lot to be desired with a move to either of the corner infield positions or perhaps even the outfield being in the works. His range is solid but a lack of a quick first step or accurate arm limits his ability to stay at shortstop. His year at USC and their introduction to the Big 10 will showcase how much potential Lopez has.
